Speed Limits

Happy Saturday!

In Hedge End, there are multiple roads which need to have their speed limit REINFORCED.
For example, On Freegrounds Road, although the speed limit is 40, vehicles still go fast and pay no attention to their speed. If speed limits around school are not reduced, then a serious accident may occur.

Linked HERE is a form, in which we want to hear your views about which roads should have their speed limits REINFORCED. The results will be analysed and then sent to Hedge End Town Council/Eastleigh Borough for further investigation.

  1. This is a good idea however I think the speed limits aren't the problem it's the lack of enforcement. Lower Northam Road being a good one, it's already a 30 limit but I can guarantee the majority of cars using it are way over 30,some doing 50 or 60 at times.

I agree. There is a lack of enforcement aswell. The idea of the form is to get views from the public to put there views forward about speed limits in Hedge End. The lack of signage is an issue aswell.

  2. Generally when driving past Berrywood School and Wildern School when pupils are leaving, there are so many cars parked in the vicinity, that it would be impossible to drive at more than 10 mph anyway.
If lower speed limits were to be considered, perhaps these limits could operate on school opening and closing times only. I can't see that there is any need to drive at 20 mph (for example)or less past any of the schools in the early hours of the morning - a max of 30 mph is fine.

  3. We live on Wildern lane where theres a 20mph limit. I get abused by other road users when driving at 20mph. Even had one young driver overtake me on a blind bend one handed whilst she and her passenger waved with closed fists. Whilst I agree with the comment above 30mph is ok to drive but it makes impossible to get in and out of private drives in Wildern lane, especially as an increase to 30 would be seen as 40. Definatley need more random enforcement as I have never seen any other than at the Sundays hill end of Kings Copse and Upper Northern road.

  4. Signage isn't the answer, there needs to be something concrete in place to enforce the limits. Very severe chicanes are needed with speed bumps. A guaranteed police presence with heavy penalties imposed.
The other speed and very dangerous issue is the red light jumpers at the traffic lights in the centre. It seems as though, if you don't jump the lights you are not a "GOOD" driver.
